10 Ways to Make Your Bridesmaids Feel Appreciated

On the big day of your wedding, it will be all about the bride and groom, but on the months leading up to it, your bridesmaids should be helping you every step of the way.  Being a great bridesmaid is no easy task, and it is important that every bride does their best to make their bridesmaids feel appreciated.  Here are some great ways to let your bridal party know how much they mean to you:

  • “Propose” to Them Properly

While being a bridesmaid is considered to be a huge honor, simply asking them won’t make your bridesmaids feel very special.  There is no need for a huge, over-the-top “proposal” like some women do these days, but there should be a little effort put into it.  There are many cute ideas on ways to ask your bridesmaids that fit any budget.  In fact, a Do-It-Yourself proposal may not only be cheaper, but your bridesmaids could appreciate it even more than a regular proposal.  With a DIY proposal, you can tailor them specifically to each bridesmaid.

  • Make Sure No One Is Left Out

You have a special connection with each bridesmaid, but not every bridesmaid may be familiar with each other.  Introducing everyone properly is a good move because it will get all your bridesmaids off to a good start and will help during bonding activities later.  In addition, make sure that you tell all of your bridesmaids your plans so that no one ever feels left out of the loop.

  • Listen to Them

It is your big day, and chances are good that you are doing most of the planning.  However, allow your bridesmaids the chance to tell you of their ideas if they have any.  Even if you don’t take any of their advice, it is important that you make it clear that their input is valuable to you.  If one of your bridesmaids sees something that could potentially be a problem, you would probably want to know about it.  Let them know that it is okay to voice a concern, and listen to their advice.

  • Take Them Shopping

One way to make your bridesmaids feel appreciated is by spending time with them doing non-wedding things.  You will most likely be with them while you shop for a wedding dress, but going on a shopping trip that isn’t about the wedding is a great way to bond and make them feel appreciated.  While shopping, you can switch roles for a bit and give them advice on what looks good as they try on clothes.

  • Acknowledge Them During a Special Moment

The rehearsal dinner is the perfect time to acknowledge how wonderful your bridesmaids have been in the months leading up to your big day.  Chances are good that you will have friends and family at the rehearsal dinner who do not know your bridesmaids.  Take this opportunity to introduce them and tell each of them how much they mean to you.

  • Confide in Them

Feeling overwhelmed?  It is easy to do when you are planning one of the biggest days of your life.  Rather than coming off as a bridezilla, confide in your bridesmaids.  Tell them what you are feeling and let them help ease your nerves.  We all tend to do strange things when we’re nervous, and keeping them in the loop will ensure that no one takes anything personally.

  • Randomly Get Your Bridesmaids Drinks

When you are meeting with your bridesmaids to go over wedding details or try on dresses, make a quick stop to pick up their favorite drinks for them.  This random gesture is not only inexpensive, but it will go a long way toward making them feel appreciated.  It is an easy way to let them know that you appreciate the time and effort that they are putting into your wedding.

  • Take a Day to Relax

There is a good reason why spa days are so common for the bride and her bridesmaids.  Wedding planning is stressful, and your bridesmaids probably feel a bit of the pressure as well.  It would probably do everyone a lot of good to take a day and relax.  Schedule a day at the spa for everyone to get pampered and relax.  Another way to make them feel special is to schedule a day where everyone is to relax on their own.  This shows that you care about their well-being and understand how stressful this may be for them as well.

  • Get Them Amazing Gifts

Giving bridesmaids gifts on the morning of the wedding is traditional, and it is important because it shows how much you value their commitment to being a bridesmaid.  Everyone wants to be an amazing gift-giver, but this can be difficult when your bridesmaids have varying tastes.  A great gift in this case could be jewelry or matching floral robes that will make your bridesmaids look amazing as they prep for the wedding.  These gifts will also make your wedding photos even cuter.  Don’t forget to write them each a hand-written card to make the gift more personal.

  • Verbally Say It

You have bought them drinks, taken them to a spa, and bonded with them as your wedding day grows near.  However, it is absolutely essential that you verbally tell your bridesmaids how much you appreciate them—during the wedding planning and after.  A bridesmaid’s responsibilities aren’t fully over until the ceremony is officially over and every detail has been taken care of.  Telling your bridesmaids how much you have appreciated all of their help is the right thing to do, and your bridesmaids will feel valued.
