First date dress code- What to Wear and What not to.

first date dress code

Lets face it, impressions are quickly and easily made. So, what you choose to wear on a date can have a massive impact on whether it ends in success. Although there are no hard and fast rules, we have put together a few guidelines on first date dress code to help you.

First date dress code.

First of all, it is vital you know what you are doing. You’re not going to want to wear a dress and high shoes if you’re going for a walk and you wouldn’t want to turn up in walking gear if you’re being wined and dined in a fancy restaurant.

If the date is quite casual, like going for coffee or the cinema, wear a nicer version of something you would normally wear to do that activity. So, if you’re normally a t-shirt and jeans kind of girl, put on your best jeans and your smartest t-shirt.

If you’re off to a fancy restaurant, it would be a good idea to find out what the restaurant’s dress code is before you plan your outfit, as you don’t want to under or over dress. Generally, if you’re off to dinner, you could get away with a black dress, simple jewlery and some smart court shoes.

If you’re not used to wearing heels, stick to your flats. After all, you don’t want to fall over in front of the guy on the first date.

Generally, we would recommend that you wear something you already own, that is the only way you know you’re going to be truly comfortable in it. There’s nothing worse than picking something that is constantly riding up or falling down. If you’re not comfortable, then your date will pick up on it and you don’t want to create any awkward tension.

We would also recommend you don’t try a daring new fashion trend for the first time. Just because it looks great in the magazine, does not necessarily mean it’s going to look good on you. Also it would be a bit of a misrepresentation, let your date see what you normally wear and who you really are.

A first date is also a great time to show off your best features. After all, you do want to make a good impression. Best features doesn’t just include your physical features, although let’s face it, it will help.

If there is one more piece of advice we can give, it is to wear clothes that fit. Don’t try and squeeze yourself into jeans that are too small, it will just dig in and make you feel uncomfortable.
